Hollow Retroreflectors offer several advantages over Retroreflector prisms. Besides weight and cost advantages, the hollow design offers unparalleled accuracy. Depending on the application, an allowable beam deviation can range from 0.25-arc sec to minutes.
Hollow Retroreflectors because of their cube-like design are obviously lighter than prisms, and although primarily made of glass they are much stronger than one would think. PLX's Hollow Retroreflectors can withstand as much as 50 pounds of pressure, and as long as you release the pressure they will return to their original delivered state.
Hollow Retroreflectors withstand tremendous pressure.
These devices also have extremely low reflected wave front error and do not face the problems with material absorption and achromatic aberration that are common with prism-type devices.
Hollow Retroreflectors have a wide spectral range and are available in a variety of mirror coatings.
Conventional screw mounted mirrors can require adjusting. PLX mirror mounts ensure higher mechanical stability, can be positioned about the permanently mounted post in any orientation and provide greater freedom for different mounting configurations.

Special mirror mounts make the Hollow Retroreflectors extremely stable.
PLX Retroreflectors and Monolithic Optical Structure Technology™ (M.O.S.T.) have delivered accuracy and performance in harsh Military and Space environments as well as in the lab.
